Volunteer Information

THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!

Spirit of Morgan Hill is a non-profit organization that relies solely on volunteers.  Spirit appreciates and always welcomes parents and family members who help the league continue to run.  Without the dedicated help of volunteers, Spirit would not be what it is today after 40+ years…. THANK YOU!!

SPIRIT OF MORGAN HILL VOLUNTEER FAQs:

  • What players/teams are responsible for volunteer hours?

All players’ families from 6U-14U at all levels of play are responsible for completing 6 or more volunteer hours. Volunteer hours at the league and team level are essential to the operational success of Spirit. Volunteer hours must be split: 3 hours at the team level and 3 hours at the league level, or all 6 hours can be done at the league level.

  • How are my volunteer hours tracked?

You will use Sign Up Genius to sign up for volunteer activities at the League level and will be verified by the Volunteer Coordinator (Amie Ruiz) using a sign-in and out sheet. Team-level activities will be recorded using TeamSnap assignments data, after completion has been verified by the team parents. If you would like to check your logged hours, ask your team parent. They are able to view the league’s weekly updated spreadsheet.

  • What volunteer opportunities are available to fulfill the volunteer requirement at the League level?

Volunteer opportunities during the spring season may include:

    • Snack Shack
    • Field Clean-up Day
    • Volunteering for special league events such as Picture Day, Hit-a-Thon, Opening Ceremonies, etc.
    • TeamSnap Rostered Coaches, Assistants, and Team Parents
    • Serving on the Spirit Board of Directors (please reach out to breaenna@spiritofmh.org for available opportunities)
  • How do I sign up for league-level volunteer positions?

Volunteer opportunities are listed on SignUp Genius. Your team parent has posted it in your Team Chat, and it can be found on our website.  Opportunities are posted as they become available; check back periodically.

  • What opportunities at the team level are available to fulfill the league requirement for volunteer hours?

    • Field prep (Home team)
    • Scorekeeping (10U-14U Home team)
    • Head coach (1)
    • Team Parent (1)
    • Rostered Assistant Coach (max. two spots per team)

** Only rostered Coaches and Team Parents can complete all their volunteer hours at the Team level.

  • How do I sign up for team-level volunteer positions?

Volunteer opportunities are listed under Assignments on your team page on TeamSnap.

  • Does helping at my child’s practice count towards my volunteer hours?

No, only rostered coaches and team parents can claim volunteer hours at the team level for practices.  Hours can be met through field prep for home team games and scorekeeping at the 10U to 14U home team games.

Per NorCalUSA Softball (State/Fed laws), only certified coaches and team parents are allowed in the dugout and on the playing field. No outside adults or children are permitted.

  • What if I only complete a portion of my volunteer hours?

Volunteer hours will not be prorated. If your family does not complete all 6 of the required volunteer hours, your deposit will not be refunded at the end of the season.

  • Once a family has completed their 6 volunteer hours, how and when will they be refunded?

Micki (Registration Coordinator) processes refunds weekly to the credit card used for initial registrations.

  • What if I’d like to complete my volunteer hours, but none of the available shifts fit my schedule?

Please send an email to Amie@spiritofmh.org for more information.
